The Leadership Collaborative adopting the 2050 Plan in 2010.
-
Bring the plan to the people
With the help of the Center, the Leadership Collaborative will take the 2050 Plan on the road. Celebrate Our Home will invite all 100,000 residents of Newton County to meet, greet, eat, and learn about the 2050 Plan.
-
Business and Tech
The Leadership Collaborative is already working to support and expand Newton County’s businesses and technology sector. A successful future means more, better-paying jobs in Newton County. This multi-jurisdictional team is working to increase the marketability of the Stanton Springs Technology Park and Airport Business Park.
-
Retail and Downtown Development
The City of Covington and Board of Commissioners are working together to expand the scope, variety, and quality of retail across the county and in Downtown Covington. If people can get the goods and services they need locally, they can spend their tax dollars and drive less.
-
Preserve and promote small town environments and agricultural areas
The cities and county are implementing policies that will ensure future development in the county is of high quality, and that it allows our agricultural areas to flourish. Look for policies like transferable development rights, conservation easements, and new town center plans for the compact communities in the near future.
-
Expand educational opportunities
An economically successful county will have high-quality jobs, and we need to support education to ensure that these jobs are available to our children and grandchildren.
Preparing for the future
Planning for sprawl is a lot like water. When water is scarce, the need to conserve is obvious. But when the rain returns, people forget. How do you convince people to conserve for the next dry spell?
